Why use flat diapers in the layette?

Cotton flat diapers are second to none in terms of the number of possible uses, which is why at PUPPI we say that you can never have too many flats in your layette, because they are very useful and there is always another function for them. Explore our suggestions for what flat diapers will be useful for.

.

1. Since you are reading this article on our blog, it is very likely that the first use we mention here is quite obvious to you. However, not everyone knows that nowadays flat diapers in many homes still serve as... diapers!

Flat diapers are woven from cotton. Their specific weave makes them instantly absorb moisture and distribute it nicely over the entire surface, while providing a free flow of air to the skin. Paired with a wool cover, they will be one of the most natural diaper solutions. The advantage will be the low cost of diapering and the positive impact on the environment and the health of the baby.

.

Flat diapers will work best as a diaper in the first 6 months of a baby's life. For older babies, they may not be absorbent enough. However, they can then be enhanced with a booster or absorbent insert placed inside the flat diaper.

.

2. Flats will be indispensable in the role of a "burp cloth", i.e. a diaper that you place on your shoulder when you carry your baby to rebound after feeding, or put under his head in the crib or stroller to protect the sheet and mattress.

.

3. Take a cotton flat diaper for delivery to the hospital to lay the baby on it for weighing and changing - no one would want to lie on a cold scale or changing table! You'll also use a flat diaper to line the bottom of the bathtub during bathing.

.

4. Flat diaper will also fulfill the role of a changing mat both at home and when using public changing tables. It will protect the place where you put the baby from unplanned peeing, and will separate him from bacteria on "foreign" surfaces.

.

5. Many babies love to suck on their cotton diapers, especially during teething. In this way they massage their gums and learn the texture of the material. A small diaper, such as a muslin diaper, is useful for such use.

.

6. Flat diapers will work well as a bib during teething. They will be appreciated by any mother when she realizes that the baby at this time can completely wet the clothes with saliva in a matter of minutes! The diaper bib will also help protect the clothes during the first independent meals.

.

7. Uses of the cotton flats also include being part of the bedding, such as a sheet for the stroller or Moses basket, or a thin blanket during warmer days.

.

8. You will appreciate the cotton diaper in the hot summer, when you forget to bring a cap to protect the head from the sun. You can easily tie a flat diaper as a baby's head wrap.

.

9. When your little one grows out of all the above uses of cotton flats, it will come in handy at home in the role of dishcloths, for hands, for cleaning windows, floor and many other household uses.

.

Or do you have an idea for yet another use? If so - leave a comment under this article!

In the meantime, we still want to point out that individual cotton flat diapers differ from each other:

.

  • shape (they can be square or rectangular),
  • grammage (not every diaper will be suitable for diapering, too low grammage and too loose weave will make it too little absorbent - no worries though! In our store, all diapers will be perfectly suitable for this purpose!)
  • weave (it can be looser or denser, double or single, the diaper after washing can be smooth or crimped as in the case of muslin)
  • color (in addition to the classic cotton diapers, we have white and unbleached muslin diapers, but they can also be dyed or color-printed)

.

Which diaper will be the best?

.

It all depends on the application. In our store you will find diapers ideal for reusable diapering. We have plain cotton and muslin flat diapers: white and unbleached.

.

The easiest rule of thumb is that any diaper that can be used to diaper a baby will also work for all the other uses listed, but it doesn't work the other way around.
